About USIC and the Non-Profit watchdog group:
For many years before
9/11 – a major thrust of USIC’s advocacy and awareness efforts
has been to close the breach in our national security presented
by America’s 361 harbors and ports. One of the chief exploiters
of this vulnerability have been Chinese shipping firms, such as
the China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO), which Congress has
identified as “the merchant marine arm of the People’s
Liberation Army.”
In 1998,
USIC collected and delivered to Congress more than 334,000
petitions from citizens who were alarmed at the Clinton
administration’s plan to lease the former Long Beach Naval
Station to COSCO in return for campaign contributions. The
courts later ruled this illegal and ordered the Naval Station
returned. Our press conference on Capitol Hill called national
attention to the China threat on our own shores. Congress
listened and passed legislation, HR 1119, with an amendment by
California Rep. Duncan Hunter banning such transfers. USIC
helped this become Public Law 105-85. USIC and its many grassroots supporters are determined to see to it that COSCO is evicted from Pier J where they are ensconced. Many congressional leaders and their staffs have been lulled into thinking that COSCO is just another foreign company with no malicious intent. COSCO has been determined by intelligence officials to be an arm of the Peoples Republic of China, where everything is controlled by the Communist Party.

More USIC Program • Hosting national security briefings at the annual Camp David Area Leadership Conference in 2005 and 2006. The focus of the annual briefings were the the current configuration of the Red China Threat.
• Sending investigative teams to Pier J in Long Beach, CA, and
Charleston, SC, to observe firsthand COSCO operations in those major
ports. Our team team caught COSCO engaging in irregular activities with
potentially dangerous environmental impact with
cargo containers in August 2005. When our staff brought this activity to
the attention of the Port Authority, it was explained away as "Training
Exercises." Training exercises or not, this improper handing of
containers needs to be reviewed for its affect on the delicate ecosystem
of the Long Beach Harbor.

USIC
Revoked the 2006 Ronald Reagan Award to Congressman Curt Weldon (R) of PA the
because of the influence peddling scandal involving Bogoljub Karic of Serbia and the Congressman
Weldon's Daughter. USIC presents the Ronald Reagan Award is given from time to time to leaders who follow and demonstrate the principles of President Ronald Reagan in the public policy arena. |

COSCO – the Chinese Overseas Shipping Company – should not be confused with COSTCO, a retail store in the USA. |
